Oriental Pastry: 3 Easy Recipes

Oriental Pastry: 3 Easy Recipes

The gentle autumn has indeed arrived, with cool evenings reminding us, and the blankets are out!

We thought it was high time to warm ourselves up, and what better way than with delicious oriental pastries to bring some warmth to our plates?

And although oriental pastry is reputed to be complex, we have selected for you three easy recipes for successful oriental pastries.

1)     Moroccan Gazelle Horn

Dough preparation:

1-     Mix 250g of flour and 250g of butter with a pinch of salt

2-     Add 3 tablespoons of cold water to knead and gather the dough.

3-     Roll the dough into a ball and let it rest for about 1 hour.

Filling preparation:

1-     Mix 200g of almond powder with 150g of sugar, 1 egg, and 1 tablespoon of orange blossom water. Add a pinch of cinnamon

2-     Mix until you get a firm ball

Cake preparation:

1-     Roll out the dough to 2 to 3 mm.

2-     Cut squares of 6 to 8 mm.

3-     Place a bit of filling in each and roll into a crescent

4-     Bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for about 20 min.

5-     Remove and drizzle with sugar syrup or orange blossom water.

6-     Roll the horns in icing sugar.

Enjoy!

2)     Almond Basboussa

Cake preparation:

1-     Mix 500g of fine semolina with 100g of almond powder, 2 pots of natural yogurt, 100g of sugar, 2 packets of baking powder, 100ml of neutral oil, and a pinch of salt

2-     Once the mixture is homogeneous, pour it into a pre-buttered rectangular dish

3-     Score rectangles and place a blanched almond in each.

4-     Bake in a preheated oven at 200 degrees for about 30 min.

Syrup preparation:

1-     Place two glasses of fine sugar and 1 and a half glasses of water in a saucepan

2-     Add 2 tablespoons of orange blossom water and the juice of half a lemon

3-     Bring to a boil and let reduce over low heat for about 15 min.

4-     Once the cake is baked, soak it directly with the warm syrup on the hot cake.

Let it cool before cutting into individual squares.

3)     Baghrir or Thousand-Hole Pancake

Dough preparation:

1-     Mix 250g of extra-fine semolina with 30g of flour

2-     Add 1 teaspoon of instant baker's yeast, salt, and 500ml of warm water

3-     Blend for 5 minutes

4-     Add a packet of baking powder and blend again for 20 seconds

Once the mixture is ready, let it rest for about 10 to 15 minutes. You can already see the holes forming in your preparation.

Pancake preparation:

1-     Heat a pan

2-     Pour a ladle of the preparation

3-     Thousands of holes appear, remove the pancake once it's cooked on one side without flipping it

4-     Repeat these steps until the dough is used up.

You can add honey or a honey-butter mixture on your pancakes.
